Stewards of Towerside Park

09/13/2022 03:30 PM - 05:00 PM CT

Description

Community gardening in public parks, water quality by design, youth in the garden and saving seeds.

Join the Twin Cities Metro Growers in conversation about the connections of community gardening, our wonderful public parks, water quality and ways we can all learn about and get involved in taking care of the places where we live and grow food for ourselves and our neighbors!

Rebecca Gross, Community Garden Coordinator from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, will discuss MPRB's community garden policy and program and the development of Towerside Park.

Abby Moore from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization will discuss the stormwater reuse system and describe how it conserves water and protects water quality in the nearby Mississippi River.

Britt Howell of BF50 Indigenous Health, Certified Indigenous Seed Saver and a Garden Lead, will discuss the importance of being able to grow food in a Community Garden and share plant-based education with community members.

Jean Emmons of Luxton Learners, a program of East Side Neighborhood Services, will highlight the after-school and summer youth program serving famlies in the Prospect Park neighborhood.

Free to attend! Registration requested, walkups welcome.

Join us after the event at The Market at Malcolm Yards  to keep the conversation going.

Address: Prospect Park Community Garden Towerside, 2909 4th St SE Minneapolis, MN 55414
