2022-05 EC Chapter - A Year in the Bee Yard

05/14/2022 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT

Description

Come and join the East Central Chapter SFA meeting at Coborn's in Isanti, MN on Saturday May 14, 2022 for a presentation on A Year in the Bee Yard presented by East Central Chapter member Quinten Holmberg of Homestead in the Sticks.

Learn what a year in the bee yard looks like. He will provide overview of the activities that a beekeeper performs in his bee yard in spring, summer, fall, and winter. While not the in-depth training offered elsewhere, this overview is enough for someone considering beekeeping to know whether it will fit into the activities of their farm or homestead and leave them with the resources to take the next steps.

Quintin is in his 10th season of beekeeping. While the first few years were a struggle to keep bees alive and produce honey, perseverance and mentoring from others have led him to a small but sustainable beekeeping operation. Currently sitting at around 20 colonies, he has not purchased bees in 5 seasons and continues to reduce his reliance on treatments typically needed to keep bees alive and healthy.

We invite all attendees to participate in a potluck brunch which is part of this gathering. Please register all family members attending, children are welcome.  Encourage friends to register and join us too.
