Integrating grazing animals and forest management, or silvopasture, can be beneficial both for environmental conservation and as a farm income generator. Learn the principals of this managed intensive grazing system and hear from farmers utilizing these principles as SFA hosts Silvopasture Field Training workshops this August.

Suitable for marginal land and unmanaged wooded pasture, silvopasture combines livestock, forage, and trees into one holistic system. These workshops will illustrate how this farming system can improve soil health and water quality, enhance wildlife and prevent erosion – all while providing short- and long-term farm income.

This workshop is set for 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 1, at Sun Up Ranch, 12316 County 18 SW, MN 56401-2005. Please note that this address is not a house but rather the ranch gathering site.

These events will take place outside with social distancing guidelines in effect; space is limited to 25 people per site due to Minnesota COVID-19 guidelines. Registration is free for current SFA members and $40 for nonmembers; scholarships are available for agricultural professionals. Boxed lunch included. Six CEUS offered to certified crop consultants who attend. Pre-registration is required. SFA recommends bringing face masks to its events.

Should the event be cancelled, registrants will be notified of cancellation on September 28 and non-members will be refunded.
